With the occasion of the Feast of the patron saints of the city of Rome, Peter and Paul during the Mass we read this passage of the Gospel of St. Matthew, in which Jesus confirms to his disciples that He is the living God through which God manifests himself to the Man, and entrusts His Church to the Apostle Peter.
For me, this reading not only strengthens me in the Christian faith, but also recalls to the mind St. Paul of Tarsus this great man who, traveling continually through the Roman Empire, has performed an unceasing and effective apostolate. St Paul has been another of the tools chosen by God, because without him the Christianity would certainly have had less spreading speed.
I therefore believe that each of us, in his own small environment of life and work, should imitate Paul the Apostle. Even though one of us should not have doctrinal knowledge, should be an apostle with the example of daily life, without pretending to do strange or extraordinary things.
Should show himself as a Christian by the perfection of his work, the attention and care towards the family, and whenever possible by the solidarity with the unlucky and with those who, not by their will or guilt, are the weakest into the society.
Apology: as far as I am concerned I assure you that without doubt the content of this passage of the Gospel is true. In this case, those who, despite knowing the Sacred Scriptures, would say that they do not believe in Jesus Christ, they should reject the statements of all the direct witnesses of then, taking them for stupid, crazy or visionary; also he should consistently have to discard all documents concerning the Divine Revelation, including those steps of the Jewish Bible referring to Jesus.
Those who do not believe should think that the many martyrs of antiquity who, when they were accused, could have abjured and save themselves, were mad fools;
Those who do not believe should think that all Christian philosophers and fathers of the Church, beginning with the Bishop of Hippo, passing through St. Jerome and many others, including Thomas Aquinas, were 'minus habentes' who believed in fables and have seen fireflies as lanterns.
Recalling that San Peter's memory is indissolubly associated with Saint Paul, Jewish and Roman citizen, at first a Pharisee and a persecutor, then suddenly converted from an extraordinary event that turned him from a fierce persecutor of Christians to a ferociously persecuted Christian.
He wasn’t persecuted by the Romans, as some late imitators of the Pharisees would want us to believe, but by the Jews who chased him throughout the Empire in his apostolic journeys, lying and saying all sorts of accusation against him.
After repeated fiascos, they eventually led the satanic Emperor Nero to the persecution against the Christians Jews of Rome, and with false accusations they took advantage of the Apostle Paul decapitation, according to the punishment reserved to Roman citizens condemned to death.
To fully understand what did for the Church this great man, without whom the Christianity would certainly have had lesser spreading speeds and more doctrinal problems, one should also read the Acts of the Apostles. In addition to canonical texts, it’s a historical novel, and even a very pleasant reading, especially for those who had a classical education. Particularly about the events concerning St. Paul

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 16,13-19
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea of Philippi and asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
