Comment to the Gospel
LUKE 1,26-38; March 26, 2021.
How to be or become follower of Jesus Christ in the world and in our own situation

Doubting is human and to every believer may happen a doubt of faith. In fact, Jesus says to the incredulous Thomas:

«Because you saw me, you believed; blessed are those who have not seen and believed»

When a Christian has a doubt of faith, prays to the Lord to let it pass, or even turns to a priest for advice and spiritual help. In my case, the unrivaled help which I have already told in a conversation, comes to me from the firm belief that the Virgin Mary personally intervened to save me from a bad situation.

Announcement of the Angel to the Virgin Mary

Here is a passage from my testimony, about an event that occurred in a period of my life during which difficulties and problems induced by the economic situation and excessive work, had led me to a psychophysical state of profound neurosis:

One night when I just couldn't sleep, I was sick and my head felt like imprisoned in an iron circle gripping my brain, I was assailed by an unspeakable sense of anguish and oppression. I don't know how, then a heartfelt invocation to Our Lady broke out inside me desperately:
"My Immaculate Mother" - I silently screamed - "I have always loved you even if I have not always shown it to you! Please my Mother, if you really exist and if you are the Mother of Jesus, HELP ME! "
I repeated this invocation again intensely, heartily, desperately, two, three, four times. Suddenly I felt as if something broke inside me with a resounding 'crack!', I received a bump, a shock, like a blow on the skull.
The tense nerves loosened, and the body arched by the tension suddenly relaxed and did lay down on the bed.
I repeat again, so that there are no doubts about what I say: I am firmly convinced that the Virgin Mary intervened in person to save me from an overall unsustainable situation.
«How can you expect us to believe you?"» - someone, maybe a psychologist or psychiatrist, will tell me - «We who know a little about the human psyche, and that from certain states of mental prostration one can come out in an autogenous way, by self-trust.»

True, the risk of doubting is there, it rarely assails me too, and besides, what happened to me is not something physically evident, like xould be a cancer or an end-stage sclerosis.
But when I think about and relive the experience of that night in my mind, I clearly remember the blow to my skull, the resounding 'crack' that echoed in my brain, and the sudden loosening of the tense nerves.
I remember the sense of peace that invaded me, and of having thanked the Virgin. And that, soon after, I fell peacefully into deep sleep.

It could be that I am naive, deluded, but I had the gift of Faith from God.
AND THE THOUGHT OF MY HEALING, SUDDEN AND INSTANTANEOUS, MAKES ME SAY THAT WHAT LUKE ANF JOHN REPORTS OF THE GOSPEL IS TRUE.
TO ME THESE FACTS (those told by Luke) ARE TRUE WITHOUT DOUBT, AND SHOULD BE THE SAME FOR ALL CHRISTIANS.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1,26-38

26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
29 But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
30 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
33 and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
34 But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"
35 And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
36 And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
37 for nothing will be impossible for God."
38 Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
