Position : 1984-1987 Maintenance manager for both HRC MILLS.
Description: sent to replace a colleague who suffered a heart attack, I took the maintenance management of HRC2, heart of steel plants in Taranto, producing more than 8 million tons per year of hot rolled coils
- 1985: as leader by my company side of the Nippon Steel Corp. mission for mill No. 2, did improve the methods of emergency data collecting and reporting, and of the fault analysis and repair .
- The 'working ratio' (index of utilization) resulting of is activity increased in 1985 almost 3 percentage points, compared to the previous year average value and pushed up the production.
- I then took part in design and construction of a third and final rationalization, this time throughout the organization and structure of Taranto steel works plants.
THE YEAR 1986, in July, A BIG ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT HOT ROLLING MILL 2. Due to my maintenance improvements, the summer 1986 HSM2 was marching continuously without stopping and producing 10,000 metric tons per shift, working ratio was 100%. Because the ouside environment temperature - about 110 ºF - and the full power non stop production, there was overheating of a power cable in correspondence with a coupling pull box in the underground cable tunnels. Overheating took fire to the cable in the weak coupling point. The consquent cigarette effect led to the dimming panel.destruction. e plant stopped 2 months, the repair cost was about 120 millions EU of today.
Position from 1986 to 1987 : reorganization of e 60" HRC mill.
Description: I had a part in activities to abolish the maintenance managers and reunite the whole structure of maintenance and operation - always wiothut consequences for plants, but not always for the involved people .
